Upon earning a bachelor's degree focused on political philosophy, Saura "Sunny" Sahu enrolled at the University of Michigan Law School and completed a juris doctor degree in 1999. He began his legal career as a federal judicial clerk to the Hon. Julian Abele Cook, Jr. in the US District Court - Eastern District Michigan, and subsequently served as a NAPIL Fellow/staff attorney at the Maurice & Jane Sugar Law Center working throughout the US, as well as an associate at the elite Los Angeles, California-based criminal defense boutique firm of Tarlow & Berk, P.C.
Sunny Sahu relocated to Michigan in 2006, and spent the next 9 years with the international law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone, P.L.C., first as an associate and then as partner, where he focused on major business compliance and litigation. There, he managed complex civil trial cases, white-collar criminal litigation, internal corporate investigations, and employment litigation. His work ran the gamut from identifying case and trial strategy, to litigating dispositive motions in state and federal court, to arguing state and federal appeals. Along the way, Sunny has also served as a deputy city attorney, handling the federal and civil litigation for a Michigan city.
In 2017, Sunny Sahu founded Clancy Advisors when a former colleague called Sunny to discuss spearheading the merger of a successful, venture-backed company into an industry leader. That deal spawned Sunny's passion for the innovative issues relating to growing, protecting and selling these companies. Since then, he has served as principal of Clancy Advisors, where he focuses on venture capital investment and assists clients with fund and company formation, as well as investment rounds and mergers and acquisitions. He is a member of the California and Michigan Bar Associations and past president of the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
